What YakWise collects
When you use YakWise, we collect only what's needed to produce trip verdicts and improve the service:
- Account info: Display name and experience level.
- Kayak specs: Brand, model, hull type, dimensions, and weight capacity you provide.
- Trip check requests: Spot, dates, species, method, and the resulting verdict.
- Usage metadata: Model used (Sonnet/Haiku), response time, and token counts for monitoring.
- Diagnostics: Crash reports and performance traces when something goes wrong. These are not tied to your account.
What YakWise does NOT collect
- Your real-time GPS location. You pick spots from a list — we never track where you are.
- Your email address or phone number (unless you provide one for account features in the future).
- Payment information. YakWise is free during beta.
- Third-party tracking cookies or advertising identifiers.
How data is used
- To produce trip suitability verdicts tailored to your kayak and experience.
- To improve verdict quality and engine performance over time.
- To monitor system health (error rates, response times, API costs).
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Third-party services
YakWise uses the following external services to produce verdicts:
- Anthropic and OpenAI: Your trip context (spot, weather data, kayak specs) is sent to Anthropic's Claude or OpenAI's GPT models to generate verdicts. The provider used for each request is shown in the verdict response. See Anthropic's and OpenAI's privacy policies.
- Supabase: Database hosting. Data is stored in a US-based PostgreSQL instance.
- Mapbox: Map tiles and geocoding for the spot picker. The coordinates you pick and the map area you're viewing are sent to Mapbox to render tiles and look up place names. Mapbox's privacy policy applies.
- Open-Meteo, NOAA, WSDOT, AirNow: Weather and environmental data is fetched using spot coordinates. No personal data is sent to these services.
- Sentry: Crash reports and performance traces from the mobile app are sent to Sentry for diagnostics. We do not attach your account ID or email to these reports. See Sentry's privacy policy.
